Kona Coffee

The rich robust aroma, and smooth savory flavor of Kona Coffee is what sets it aside from all other coffees. Kona is located on the leeward side of the Big Island of Hawaii. The first commercial coffee trees were planted in the uplands of Kona in the 1840s, and have since become a part of the lifestyle and economy. Only coffee that is grown on the North and South districts of Kona can truly be called "Kona Coffee".

One of the coffees offered by Makua Coffee Company is Kona Extra Fancy (available in medium or dark roast). This coffee is the premiere grade of Kona coffee because of it’s large bean size. The medium roast (full city) gives off a smooth, nutty flavor while the dark roast (light French) has a full-bodied, smooth taste with no bitterness. Another coffee offered is Kona Peaberry (available in medium or dark roast). This coffee is the top of the line. A Peaberry bean is unique because it grows as one bean in the coffee cherry rather than the traditional two beans. This gives the peaberry a more concentrated flavor and makes up only about 2% to 5% of the total Kona Coffee harvest. Makua Coffee Company also offers Kona Swiss Water® Decaf which is a chemical-free water method done by Swiss Water® Decaf Plant in Vancouver, British Colombia.
